P.L.E.A. / PEER ADOLESCENT PROGRAMThe Poughkeepsie Learning and Educating about AIDS (P.L.E.A.) reflects a successful approach to educating youth about HIV/AIDS. Our success demonstrates that the best way to keep our youth healthy is eliminating myths and beliefs, and changing destructive attitudes and behaviors. The training is a six-week program meeting twice a week after school. The program is for youth ages 13-18 who are trained to become Peer Educators in the area of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The training includes:
Peer Info After completing the six-week Peer Education training, students can go on to participate in the 12-week advanced P.L.E.A. Program. Teens participate in group projects such as the "Quilting for Awareness" Project, and community outreach while promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and education. Each Peer Adolescent Participant must have one of the following:
