02/12/2008 - 17TH ANNUAL MLK BREAKFAST

Celebration a Success

Thanks to a diverse group of supporters and lots of hard work and cooperation, the 17th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast was an enormous success, with more than 680 attendees this year. The event was held at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center on Friday, January 25. Attendees were treated to musical selections by the Poughkeepsie Boys Choir and Rayford Watkins, as well as to inspiring speeches by the honorees.

The guest speaker was Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., the son of former heavyweight boxing champ Joe Louis. Mr. Barrow is the Executive Director of The First Tee, an organization that uses golf to promote life-enhancing values in young people. Mr. Barrow's speech reminded us about the "wonderful responsibility we have to ourselves and our families, to our community and to society."
